Visiting from inside the (DC) beltway, William Owens, publisher of Tea Party Review Magazine, is planning to visit with us to LIVE STREAM metro-Denver’s hottest politico rooftop gathering tomorrow. Mr. Owens streamed the Western Conservative Summit this weekend, and also introduced today’s straw poll winner, presidential candidate Herman Cain.
We expect a great “Liberty” crowd for what should be a lively discussion about a) education, with Jeffco BOE director Laura Boggs (how timely, the Lobato case starts tomorrow!) and 2) Obamacare with Dr. Jill Q. Vecchio of Docs 4 Patient Care – wear your LOTR t-shirts and lapel pins for this special meetup; maybe our legislators will be tuning in to get the pulse from the grassroots, and begin to feel the heat from the Mile High City!
Join us as we put our country on alert, that among our goals are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happy hour
Dr. Jill Q. Vecchio – Up On The Roof!
Liberty On The Rocks (Red Rocks) Happy Hour — August 1, 2011
August belongs to our fascinating lady leaders. We’re kicking the month off with a happy hour “two-for” – Laura Boggs, Jeffco school board director, for a quick education update, followed by Dr. Jill Vecchio, a national director with Docs 4 Patient Care (yes, they actually have read the bill and know what is in it). Time to get fired up again and shake off the summer heat doldrums.
Director Boggs is our initial “education mini-series” guest, leading up to the 2011 school board elections. She and other pro-student, pro-reform, pro-performance minded individuals will brief us periodically on education issues (a sector which consumes almost 50% of the state budget, plus additional direct property tax levies).
Our featured guest is Dr. Jill Q. Vecchio, the National Director for State Chapter Development with Docs 4 Patient Care. Dr. Vecchio is a practicing diagnostic radiologist, and is a prominent speaker on the impacts of Obamacare (we’ll pick her brains about “Amycare,” too). Docs 4 Patient Care is an organization of concerned physicians committed to the establishment of a health care system that preserves the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship, promotes quality of care, supports affordable access to all Americans, and protects patients’ freedom of choice. (My wish is that the good doctor could make a “House” call and give the President an Rx for what seems to be a general healthcare malaise coming out of D.C. – just saying…)
If you have some time prior to the meeting, I would suggest you review this great powerpoint presentation that I found by Dr. Vecchio at http://docs4patientcare.org/LiteratureRetrieve.aspx?ID=82703, for a primer.
Also, if you missed Independence Institute’s Dr. Paul Prentice’s presentations on the Fed, and on the Moral Basis of Capitalism, you can download them here at the “More Resources” tab, above.

Call, Orrok, Palacio(?) & Caleb Bonham– Up On The Roof!
DUE TO THE EXPECTED INTEREST IN THIS EVENT, PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL THE DETAILS BELOW CAREFULLY. THANK YOU!
Red Rocks continues to put the razzle dazzle back into Tavern Style Politics! Special guest emcee, up and coming comic Caleb Bonham, will host a discussion with some state parties’ heavyweights, and liven up any politics as usual, with a short stand up routine to (hopefully) inject some laughter into what’s shaping up to be an arduous political season.
Mr. Bonham is a young dynamo, recent graduate of Colorado State University, president of the CSU college republicans, political director for the Colorado Federation of College Republicans, and intern for Colorado state representative Brian DelGrosso. If you are this active in politics, you better have a good sense of humor today and Mr. Bonham certainly does. As a matter of fact, if you didn’t catch his recent performance at Comedy Works in Denver, keep your eyes open for future dates and be sure to bring your young friends along to our meetup and catch a free mini-performance.
BTW, since LOTR is focused on our youth becoming more involved in pursuing free markets, individual rights, and limited government, we will have a special gift for the individual bringing the most new, under 35, attendees to our meetup on July 18th.
And now for the Main Event. Three new state party chairs (D, R and L) have been elected this year and Red Rocks is giving you the opportunity to start separating the wheat from the chaff in the rhetoric.
Invitees: (in alphabetical order by party affiliation):
Democrat state party chair, Rick Palacio, invitation extended, but no response or acceptance to date.
Libertarian state party chair, Jeff Orrok, confirmed and will join us up on the roof.
Republican state party chair, Ryan Call, confirmed and will join us up on the roof.
Please remember, our speakers are invited so that we may all broaden our perspectives on issues; it is not a forum for attacks or an arena for changing a speaker’s beliefs. We have been (justifiably) criticized by many attendees for becoming lax in enforcing our “questions only, not statements” rule. Please be mindful that, while we all have opinions, the speakers are invited to share their expertise or position for the group’s evaluation in shaping their individual views.

No Meetup on July 4th in Observance of the Holiday
BUT, for July 18, Liberty on the Rocks (Red Rocks) presents:
Up and coming young comic, Caleb Bonham, as our guest emcee for a meetup featuring party chairs (in alpha order) for the Democrats (well, they’ve been invited, but no response to date) the Libertarians and the Republicans. This meetup should be a great interchange about ideas and directions in this critical period in history, and also a lot of fun!
One of the LOTR mission is to involve and educate younger citizens about their forthcoming gift of debt, so we will be awarding a prize to the person bringing in the most new under 35 year old attendees. Let’s get more people involved in the conversation!

Independence Institute’s Justin Longo – Up On The Roof!
“Why Elections Don’t Matter…but the Median Voter Does”
Are you “Fed” up with politics as usual? Were you looking for inspiration from the CNN debate? Stuck inside a party box? Then it’s time to challenge the status quo of stinkin’ thinkin’ with our generation Y guest, Justin Longo, as he pursues his mission to convert the masses to new thought paradigms one-by-one.
Mr. Longo is the co-owner of Complete Colorado, co-founder of Liberty on the Rocks, part of the team at Independence Institute, and simply an Austrian economics geek. He is sure to challenge our preconceptions about government and offend the statists, so brace yourself.
If you read Hayek, Caplan, Bastiat and the like, you will probably enjoy a lively conversation with the likes of my paisan, Justin Longo. For more information about Mr. Longo, please visit:

Up on the Roof with a “National” Perspective!
We hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity for an “off the record” Q&A with national, award-winning, CNN journalist, Jim Spellman! He was originally scheduled for our May 16th meetup, but had to travel out of town to cover the devastation in the south and the Joplin tornado. He is back in town, and we hope it will be a slow news period so that he isn’t called away again.
Over his decade of work at CNN, Mr. Spellman has covered homeland security, terrorism, and politics, and traveled extensively as a producer for Anderson Cooper 360. Since moving to Denver in 2008, he has reported extensively on the Tea Party movement, attending well over 50 tea party events across the country.
He won his first Peabody award for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and has since received two additional Peabody awards. Recent top stories include covering the BP oil spill from the Gulf coast and the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.
I would be happy to hold a July 4th meetup if we have enough interest. Realizing this is a busy family and travel weekend, I will need your input before making a decision. Please email or send me a FB message immediately:
Would you be able to attend and if so, would the morning, afternoon, or evening work best. One thought that I had was to meet in the morning at a park in Golden, before most have family commitments, for a breakfast get together. Would anyone be interested in hosting a get together at their home? Let me know sacco@libertyontherocks.org

Senator Shawn Mitchell & Representative Robert Ramirez — Up On The Roof!
With special guest emcee Justin Everett, presenting:
“2011 Colorado Legislative Wrap-up”
Really? What a trifecta! Our dynamic, engaging, and talented emcee and a delegate to the 2004 national GOP convention. The always debonair Justin Everett has pulled together a special team (a seasoned vet from the Senate, along with a political “newbie” from the House) to bring you the highlights and low lights of another legislative session soon to come to a close.
Senator Mitchell is a Senior Fellow of the Independence Institute, president of the Colorado chapter of the Federalist Society, and a favorite of Liberty. This multi-talented senator is not only an intellectual and amazingly quick witted, but he is most certainly destined for higher office (Run Shawn Run!). Senator Mitchell has consistently fought for fiscal conservatism and smaller government on behalf of his Colorado constituents since being elected into the state house in 1999.
Representative Ramirez, a Jersey boy, Eagle Scout, and entrepreneur, served our country in the Navy and is currently a “shake ‘em up” freshman Colorado legislator. He sits on the House Transportation and Education committees. (Rep. Ramirez also generously contributed a way cool campaign jacket to our Liberty holiday fund raising event held this past December).
This should be another amazing Liberty meetup. Think sunshine and let’s hope for our first happy hour on the roof top patio this year!

Education’s “Rocket Man” — Randy DeHoff – Up On The Roof!
April 18, 2011
Tax day cometh, and what better way to put it behind you than to meet with friends at the hottest “educational drink tank” in town! Education will be on tap, as our special guest will be Randy DeHoff (who really is a rocket scientist). We will discuss online learning, 21st century learning, the need (or not) for bricks and mortar, 24/7 education, and a non-traditional calendar to name just a few. Join us for what will surely be a lively discussion about the future of education!
Mr. DeHoff is currently the Director of Strategic Growth for GOAL (Guided Online Academic Learning) Academy, a Colorado public high school. He is also a former Colorado Department of Education board member, former Executive Director of the Charter School Institute, and a strong advocate of real paradigm changes in education.
One other Liberty note: if you don’t know Big Government Gary, check out some of his recent videos

(drum roll please!) 2nd Anniversary Party – Up On The Roof!
“It’s the Terrible Two’s”
C’mon down for cake and let’s party and enjoy the NCAA championship game! The two best teams will be “duking” it out (okay, maybe not…), we will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary! Our very own fearless leader and Liberty Lover, Amanda Teresi, LOTR National President will lead us in a toast and maybe song (wink, wink).
Oh, and sure, we will probably have a few giveaways or opportunities for you to leave as a winner (or a whiner) SUCH AS a pair of VIP tickets to see Sarah Palin, May 2, in a Tribute to the Troops, thanks to our friends at the Centennial Institute and Colorado Christian University.
Last year we had 80 Liberty Lovers come out to celebrate (and hear our stereo speaker blow out!) Let’s come together to give ourselves a pat on the back for what we’re all doing to move Liberty forward, kick back, reminisce, and watch the game.
With a whole lotta luck, maybe we will even have some t-shirts with a new design, so bring plenty o’cash:) Be the coolest guy or gal at the rally when you sport and support Liberty with the best freedom fashion statement, the shirt on your back (and you better hold onto them because rumor has it, the President wants that as well!)
